A giant sculpture titled “Bad Dog,” placed outside the Orange County Museum of Art in Newport Beach, California is raising eyebrows thanks to a raised leg. The anatomically correct 28-feet-tall dog stands with one leg up against the side of the museum and has been equipped to spray yellow paint onto the building, making the sculpture live up to it’s name. The towering pooch’s 52 digitally-cut pieces were assembled on site and crafted from fiberglass and composite materials.

Kirsten Schmidt, a museum spokeswoman, said that the huge canine is getting nothing but positive comments with inquiries coming from as far away as Australia, asking if the sculpture was a hoax. The temporary sculpture is very real and part of artist Richard Jackson’s exhibit, “Ain’t Painting a Pain,” which will open soon at the museum. Some are surprised to see more lighthearted art like this in the traditionally conservative community of Newport Beach. Jackson said, “My intention is never to shock or offend anyone or any particular group…People’s reaction to ‘Bad Dog’ or any art for that matter tends to vary.”
