Marcela explain about her artwork “Buho”
“Buho” definitely makes part of that “dreamy” streak. Is no secret the immense fear I have for butterflies and my strong liking for masks (or the need to cover my face). Sooner or later I had to combine those two. “Buho” butterflies are pretty common in Colombia and I’ve always found them equally intriguing and scary. The evil eye meets its goal!
I wasn’t in the mood to spend days and days on a single image (call it “post-thesis trauma”) so these ones underwent a very similar and spontaneous process; first, color and lighting adjustments, then addition of new elements and finally a texture overlay from scans and brushes. Now after at least 5 months I can see how these experiments belong to the same world. I’ll keep doing photo-composites like these for sure, but for now I have more complex and juicy stuff in progress .
Marcela explain about her Process in photoshop of “Sulfur II”
“Sulfur II” had a very chaotic, experimental and somewhat uncertain development that made me doubt about even recording this, but I’m glad I did because it shows exactly how part of my work can be too when I don’t have any sketch or concept in mind, just a vague atmosphere. What I wanted to picture was the moment before or after Sulfur III (I did that one first, haven’t shown it yet) where molecules attract each other to gather inside of her torso rising the temperature. So it was an ambiguous atmosphere what I had in mind, cold and warm but overall shimmering and tremulous. I used almost the same picture as in Sulfur IV and sometimes I regret this but as it was a close up more than a background display I think it works fine. – see the video below
