Anna Oscarson creates stoneware jewels in limited editions. Within the walls of Porslinsfabriken in Lidköping, an original factory in Sweden. Anna uses the assistance of skilled crafts people who transform her vision with great care into beautiful objects. Glazes and colours integrate to form a harmonious whole that promotes forms and lines.
DUSTY DIAMONDS is an exclusive collection of items that cross the borders between art, handicraft and design. The collection was displayed for the first time in Stockholm in 2010. Following a series of well-received exhibitions in Stockholm, Milan and London, Anna Elzer Oscarson is now bringing DUSTY DIAMONDS to Paris for the first time. These beautiful items will be on display at Maison & Objet (scènes d’intérieur) from 7–11 September 2012. The collection is a series of eye-catching forms including balls with lids, magnificent vases and generous dishes. In connection with this exhibition, three new smaller items have been added to the collection.
“I seek a certain balance between being grounded without ever stagnating. I’m not into owning a lot of “stuff”, but I do believe in beauty and quality. Attractive and functional surroundings are a real energy boost. We’re affected by our environment much more than we know. Surrounding ourselves with beautiful and significant items charges our batteries. I thrive on challenge. Not that I don’t need some peace and quiet, too, but my full potential comes to the fore when life is dynamic.” – Anna Elzer Oscarson says
Every single piece is handmade stoneware. The ball with a lid was cast in 10 separate moulds. The seams from the moulds are hand-ground with precision. The next step is to fire it once before it is glazed and fired again at 1,250 C º.
The black-and-white pieces have been coated with slip. In combination with the relief pattern, this matte finish creates exciting depth and variety. The use of turquoise was inspired by the first glazes used by mankind. The shiny feldspar glaze lends the pieces a shimmering prism-like character.
“Dusty Diamonds meant facing lots of challenges. The deep relief on the pieces has never been done before, you see. The results fill me with a true sense of accomplishment.” – Kent Eriksson
Anna Elzer Oscarson:
My Dusty Diamonds collection evolved in close collaboration with Porslinsfabriken in Lidköping, a factory once used by the fine porcelain manufacturers Rörstrand. The process grew into an exciting encounter between new techniques and time-honoured tradition, a dialogue between the designer and the ceramists. Together, we carefully selected the ultimate techniques, materials, glazes, and colours to find the ideal expression for the lines of the design, its composition and faceting.
Being granted the opportunity to work alongside some of Sweden’s most skilled craftsmen made realizing these pieces possible and the process had the extra benefit of passing on traditions and know-how.
“The reliefs were my point of departure. The whole concept involved integrating patterns and the three-dimensional shape. The result was facetted pieces with several dimensions. Pieces that draw you in and make you want to touch them. Which should give the products a long life.” – Anna Elzer Oscarson
