 My infinite home tool

Designed by dutch designer jolien hanemaaijer of hanemaai for her project ‘future travel’.she imagined two portable objects that have the double function of a suitcase and a show display, which allow you to bring with you your favorite stuff that can hardly be left behind! Perfect dream tools for what Hanemaai names “modern-day adventurers”.

Two portable objects for storage, that have the double function of a suitcase and a show display. You carry them with you or put them down as cabinets. They transport what you need and show what you have chosen to take with you.

This project started from my personal experience with extensive travelling and having to live out of one suitcase. I had to make choices about what to bring and what to leave behind. While making these choices was hard, it also made it possible to get rid of unnecessary things. The important and good items that you decide to bring are the objects that define your identity.

The suitcases are made from bended beech, leather and metal. The objects are being kept in place by elastic bands that are pulled through the little holes in the wooden frame. If you want to bring a lot of luggage, you can simply adjust the elastics.

Dream products for modern day adventurers

An important theme in my work is my experience with travelling. By leaving everything that is familiar behind, I was taken out of my comfort zone and forced to adapt my life. Because of the constant changing surrounding, this interpretation didn’t depend on something or someone anymore but totally on my decisions. This made me think about questions like; who am I? How do I want to live my life and what works for me?

Life should be your personal journey, without labels and fixed ideas. That’s why I work on products and concepts that bring the adventure and freedom of travelling into our daily life. By doing this I want to challenge others to think about the meaning of a product and give them room for their own interpretation and use.

I work on personal projects, projects for clients and collaborations.
