Fifth column bends steel rods to create Reo chair. The ‘reo chair is designed to the robust piece, which was thought as an extension of the grounds of a building with conventional construction materials such as concrete and steel.
Yet the challenge remained to convert the robustness of the materials to a more pleasing and gentle aesthetics. The circular form of the seat took away the conventional forms that are expected from some materials while colors added new values.
In ‘reo chair’, Fifth column bents individual steel rods at particular angles and shapes to suit the ergonomics of a comfortable seat. These rods are placed in the hollow concrete base, creating a simple outdoor garden chair. Visually heavy, the chair that looks immobile is a mere 8 kilograms, allowing a single person to lift it on their own.
