- Energy smart: Automated sensor blinds provide highly efficient heat protection, enabling a design oriented to light and views with approximately 70 percent of net lettable area within eight metres of the façade or the full height atrium.
- Water wise: Recycled water will meet 90 percent of the building’s water requirements, irrigating the green wall, rooftop banksias and other plantings. Waste water is treated onsite for use in washroom fl ushing systems and cooling towers, saving 100,000 litres per day, which equates to an Olympic size pool every two weeks.
- Green power: An innovative tri-generation system combines gas and rooftop solar thermal collectors to generate cooling, heating and electricity.

International Highrise Award:
The office tower “1 Bligh Street,” in Sydney to win the 50,000 euro competition for the most innovative high-rise. The architect Christoph Ingenhoven (Ingenhoven architects) and Ray Brown (Architectus) and the General Manager of the Development client based DEXUS, Tony Gulliver, accepted the award statuette and cash award as part of the ceremony at the St. Paul Church. The award was presented to the Mayor of the City of Frankfurt is Main, Peter Feldmann, and Dr. Matthias Danne, real estate and finance Board of DekaBank. The German Bank Towers in Frankfurt were honored with special recognition for the revitalization of an existing tower.
With 139 meters and 30 floors, the building breaks no winner height records but sets new standards on its continent in terms of social, cultural, urban planning, and sustainability criteria. “The overall quality of the building is outstanding. With their design, the architects avoided the iconic, rather represent the needs of users – such as the view of all offices – into focus, “the verdict of the jury chaired by the Frankfurt architect Professor Albert Speer.
The “1 Bligh Street,” has an elliptical shape and is slightly rotated in the street grid so that all offices have a direct view of Sydney Harbour and the Harbour Bridge. As the first high-rise building in Australia, it has a naturally ventilated double facade made of glass. It facilitates optimum daylight, reducing the heat loads and losses, stressing the homogeneous crystalline overall shape of the building.
The main tenant of the building, the law firm Clayton Utz, which has leased 15 floors. Developers of the 2011 completed high-rise are based DEXUS Property Group, one of Australia’s leading real estate companies.
